Abstract

Quality education is very dependent on teacher competence, which is a key factor in the learning process. The research was carried out at SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Ngawi. The aim of this research is to determine the role of school principals in improving teacher competency. The writing method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with school principals, teachers and other related parties at SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Ngawi. Apart from that, secondary data was also obtained from related documents. The results of this research show that school principals have a strategic role in improving teacher competency through various programs, including; developing teacher professionalism, creating a supportive work environment, using technology in learning, evaluation and feedback, collaboration with stakeholders.
